This is the best one I have ever read you.

Let me admit that it was the real pain for me to read and realize what perception about Indian Testers is still there. But what gave me the immense pleasure was your efforts and a conclusion after.

No doubt it takes courage and purity of heart to admit what we used to think and how we learnt to correct that thinking/view of ours.

In India , a person remains as Student (attending schools, colleges etc) almost till 1/4th of the Life’s phase. Their TEACHER is someone for them whom they respect till the end of life. The impressions of TEACHER and respect for them in every Indian’s life is so deep that one can hardly think of being arrogant by questioning them back. (Meeta was so correct here)

I myself belong to family of teachers where am the only Software Tester (taken birth ) so far . What I have been always taught is to Respect your Teacher, Elders and seniors.

Also as you know, India is a BIG country with wide verity of culture, physic, language and so ultimately the thinking process too. Forget about with Americans, but the intro word behavior noticed by you is what which can be easily found when We Indians meet each other hailing from different regions and culture. But eventually the gap reduces and the things get a go.

Apart from what KEYs you found at the end, I would request you to add one more and that is “Showing little more faith in their ability & encouraging them with your inspiring words”

To admit, we belong to the place where a student says,
” Sir, just say that I can do it and then see how I conquer the World!!”

If you read my second para under learning .....it never says dont have ego ....some amount of ego and complete self respect is required essentially.....all that I am trying to say is that do not let it become a road block on your learning process.

Excellent questions Meeta.
I have heard these questions as well. In fact I had similar questions like this when I started with software testing.
At least in India I feel testing is still looked upon as an activity anybody could perform. There could be a lot of reasons for this. Let me list some from my own experience
• None of us are introduced to software testing in college.
• All labs, projects, presentations, workshops in college favored software development.
• We saw “n” number of institutes claiming to teach software testing in 10-30 days. How can any one learn software testing in 10 days? If it is possible it has to be pretty straight forward right?
• Anyone who was bad at development was moved into testing. I am sure most of them would have become *great testers today, simply because they could write bad code. [*automation is a must to have skill]
• I have seen developers who got married move into testing because they feel testing is much easy and they could go home earlier :)
• A number of organizations look upon testing as a final activity because a client asks for it.
• The standard process and best practices defined.
• Bad interviewers
And most importantly
• Tester’s inability to test.

I am sure I can think of a lot more reasons why questions such as the one you have posted crop up. Will keep posting more :) (I feel we can have something like 101 myths to not take up software testing :)

I am not sure what you understand / perceive as "exhaustive". It’s a very subjective term unless you define your boundaries around it.

If you have understood the requirements clearly and identified the positive and negative test sets. It makes sense to say "it is good start point for testing".

But cannot have a generic claim that THIS approach will lead to "bug free software product".
